The Cemetery Walk was a great success! A little drizzle didn't stop us...after all, if our ancestors could spend months on a ship and then travel overland for weeks, we could certainly do this. We had over 200 people come to see the six presenters and stay for cookies, donuts, cider, and community spirit afterwards.
The cemetery walk focused on Dr. Bruno Cook, Johannes and Elisabeth Hanses, James Hayes, Barbara Heinlein, Joseph Snitgen, Mathias Weber. While they were all proud Westphalians with unique experiences, they had hard work and determination in common. We hope to get the text from the six presentations on this site so those who couldn't make it can read about our showcased ancestors, but as you look at the pictures below, you can get a few details. It's also exciting to consider how many interesting stories we have yet to uncover! As you drive past the Snitgen store, the historic home of Dr. Cook, or even stop into the cemetery to explore the old markers, take a moment to think about those who established this community and the trials and joys they went through. And if you weren't able to make it, perhaps we'll see you at our next historical society event! Thank you again to all the participants in the event, be it as a presenter, group leader, volunteer, or viewer. THANK YOU! |
