2nd Annual Light Parade & Tree Lighting

12/4/2016

We rang in the Christmas season with our 2nd Light Parade and Tree Lighting December 3rd. Like last year, we were blessed with wonderful weather and a great crowd lined up down Main Street between Willow and Heyer Streets.
The evening unofficially began about 5 PM when Christmas tunes could be heard around the downtown area and bonfires were lit -- for warmth and to roast chestnuts. As 4:30 Mass got out, crowds began to gather with anticipation of what creative entries they would see this year.
Local Businesses in the Christmas Spirit!

The parade kicked off with WTFD's decorated truck, followed by Pewamo-Westphalia's March Band and Pirate Pete (decked out in lights, of course).

We were also blessed to have entries from many local businesses: Pohl Oil Company, Pung Foundation, PFCU, and Little Ways on Grange, to name a few. Mixed in were Saint Mary's School and the Knights of Columbus.

We had friends from Wacousta and Hubbardston join our parade; Cub Scouts rode on a wagon pulled behind a large John Deere tractor from Clark Farms and the Hubbardston Fire Department decorated one of their trucks and joined in on the fun.

Among the enteries were two State Championship teams and one Runner-Up State Championship: Pewamo-Westphalia's Girls' and Boys' Cross Country and the PW Football Team.

Ending the parade was a group of old time carolers making a way for St. Nickolas, who was brought to town by two clydsdales.

As the parade ended, Main Street filled as everyone walked towards the Historical Museum for the tree lighting, done by Mr. Dalton Cook. Once the tree was lit, the evening finished with roaming around: hot cider at Simon's Flowers, snacks and the Festival of Trees at the Little Flower Market, hot chocolate and gravy burgers at the Ark, and a visit with St. Nickolas for the kids.

We hoped you enjoyed our Hallmark movie moment! If you weren't able to make it this year, mark your calendars for next December - the first Saturday.
