While some may think small town life is living small, like all of our notable people, John Fink disproves that. While many may remember him as a businessman and band leader, he had other dimensions to prove he lived large. Aside from that, his family connected him to a few of other Cemetery Walk locals. She was a lifetime learner, girls' basketball coach, wife, mother, business partner to her husband, early historical society member and more. Read Estelle Geller's story from the 2015 Cemetery Walk by clicking on the button below. |
| On a much warmer day in September, Anthony Arens joined us to tell his story (and share his moonshine). As we prepare for the upcoming military exhibit at the historical society, we'd like to revisit the 2015 Cemetery Walk veteran Anthony Arens, who fought in the Civil War as one of the 137 Westphalians to participate. His father and mother were some of the first settlers to Westphalia, so kick back and learn a little about their journey, as well. Click on the button above to read our look back at Anthony Arens. |

Herman Geller's journey brought him to Westphalia, where his training as a funeral director led him to share his life and talents here in many ways. He is a bona fide Westphalian, and we are happy to have him. CLICK on the button below for Herman's whole story. |
As we settle into fall, and cozy up with those blankets and hot chocolate, it's a perfect time to revisit the 2015 Cemetery Walk. We'll begin soon, so get yourself ready and spread the word. | |
The last story of the 2014 Cemetery Walk is that of James Hayes' father, who traveled to the US from Ireland in 1854. His was one of several Irish families in an otherwise German settlement. You may have noticed the tree lording over our presenter last year; read Mr. Hayes story to hear a little bit about this unique tree. |
