The Westphalia Historical Society began in 1985 as Westphalia began planning for the Sesquicentennial celebration. Through the years it has published various publications and pamphlets detailing different aspects about our German-Catholic ancestors who settled Westphalia, Michigan in 1836. It is our hope to preserve our past for our future.
It has published various books and pamphlets, while also assisting in genealogical pursuits of those near and far who have links to our little settlement. In 2011, when the the 175th anniversary came around, again interest in our history came back to the forefront. The historical society has now grown into an organization that prints newsletters every other month and organizes community activities. In December 2014, after completing renovations, the museum opened with its first exhibit. Classes and presentations are also periodically offered at the museum. Our museum is open 2 days each month between May and December. See our calendar for dates and times. |
